More on first tutorial of After effects. This was getting to understand the 2 bottom features of the software by including images which fade in or move into view. For this to work, the image was dragged from the ‘Project’ feature on the left side and released onto the composition on the bottom left.
To make the image fade in using the drop down arrow next to the name it comes up with transition and then pressing on the drop down arrow on that row, anchor point, position, scale and opacity shows up below.
So for the fade to work, select the stopwatch next to opacity which allows you to animate something over time. Then select the diamond symbol on the far left of this row which creates a key frame on the timeline on the right feature. Make sure the time is 0:00:00:00 and change the opacity to 0%. Then move the line on the timeline to 1 second and then press the diamond symbol again to create a key frame, and then change the opacity to 100%. Then press the RAM preview and it would show the image fading in.
Another transition to make the image fade in is using the position one. You can add key frames from selecting the diamond symbol as before, but this time you can move the image out of the screen view so it can animate into the shot, either as a straight line, or in a zigzag path which flows.
