First Adobe AfterEffects tutorials: This was looking at the different features of the front screen when opened up.
To import video/image files you could either go File>Import>File or Double click on the project window.
To create a new composition go Composition>New Composition. In the preset drop down select PAL D1/DV Widescreen Square Pixel. Then press OK.
The preview bar on the right hand side of the screen is useful. The RAM preview icon on the far right is better to use than the Play icon as it renders to memory of computer.
There is also the effects and presets which can be dropped onto compositions.
