One of the things that were talked about at my last group discussion was using the write-on effect. This is just an experiment using it for the word ‘survival’. I played about with the colour and position but in the end I don’t think it would work with my animation, maybe a bit too smooth and complicated to include.

Elements of my Animation
These are animations I created for the middle section of my animation on a plain background. These would then go on the landscape animation template I created earlier. With group discussions I have changed the skills I’m going to use so that they relate to nature and survival. I think they work well, not sure on the length of time for each one but I can develop on that.

This would be where the background would show the whole landscape which zooms out from previous frame. The stick men zoom and fade in along with a speech bubble saying what a ‘wild’ experience it is.

With this animation I did screenshot the part of the landscape animation this one was going to be based so I knew where the water was and the tree where the apples fall down. Skill of Numeracy is used with the apples falling down, and Organisation is used with the buckets of water all laid out neatly. I made it so a bucket from the sea would fade in and then the stickman would through it into the...

So this one starts with the shelter and then the 2 stick men walking towards it with wood to construct the shelter, linking to team-working skills. Along with this the talk bubbles show that they are communicating and so referencing to that skill. Then ‘SOS’ zooms up from shelter in the shape of leaves to illustrate literacy. I did think about having a book but then it wouldn’t be part of...

This one starts with the fire shimmering along with the stickman touching it and then pull back quickly and then showing a talk bubble of swear symbols, which links well with confidence (risk). Then the other stickman moves onto screen with a first aid and hunting kit. There is a decision to make to help the other stickman and that’s why the skill is shown.

This is the animated background on it’s own. I’m going to do the skills separately and then place it onto this. For each section it stops on, I made the duration around 8-10 seconds but this might be altered depending on the actual skill animations I create.

Playing cards art and sculpture →
Clever and intricate sculptures using playing cards from various artists and university students. Especially like the work by Brian Berg in which he creates massive architectural structures.

This is another bit of my animation, after the introduction and before the actual landscape frames. I’ve used the same font and colours as the intro and the same transitions. The end of this frame the question mark dot zooms towards center screen and fades out which will then move onto the landscape and skills. I think the last words are a bit quick to read.

This is a rough animation of the middle frames showing the fire shimmering, shelter, collecting food with the apples and water nearby. Then zooming out with the stickman character where a speck bubble will appear. I haven’t included writing for this draft as I just want to see the overall view. From a group discussion I should make it flatter instead of the perspective. I am actually wondering...

This was just a short animation showing one of the skills stats, and using the puppet pin tool to move the fire around which is something I will have to do in my actual animation. Using the fire drawing, I scanned it in Photoshop, made it bolder by using the cutout filter. Then on after effects I created an animated fire. ‘Organization’ is going to use with the fire frame on my animation as it...

This is a 4 second experiment on After Effects for the introduction frame of my animation to show what it is going to be about. I’ve used the drawing of the graduation hat to animate it into the shot by making it scale down as it moves around the screen and also rotating. The text I’ve used 2 different fonts and colours so that the ‘Survival guide’ is more like a stamp and rugged type. I might...

Alphabloks - Motion Typography Thought this was a clever animation with the alphabet appearing 3D in different transitions and effects, firstly all together and then showing each one individually.

This is an initial outline of what the beginning of my animation would be. The hat is a drawing which I scanned in but for the actual one I would create it on photoshop or illustrator. After this the city scene would appear as the hat moves up.

Another short animation using the word ‘hello’. By clicking on the 3D tool along the composition feature it brings up x, y and z axis underneath the layers. I really played about with this and made it effective moving about whilst at the same time rotating. This is another technique which I think I’ll find fun to explore.

This is a Stickman i created on Illustrator and then transferred it onto AfterEffects to make it move using the puppet pin tool by selecting the points which i want to move. I made it so the ends of the legs and arms and top of head would move. It thought this was a fun tutorial to do and it’s made me think about how i could explore this technique.

This is a rebrand of Bitdefender, an internet security and antivirus software. “The brand foundation is the legendary symbol of the Dacian Dragon-Wolf. Half wolf, half serpent, this totemic creature guarded the Dacian people in their wars and has come to stand for resilient defense”(http://identitydesigned.com/bitdefender/) I think it’s very clever how they have rebranded and...

This is another online PDF document I found about skills and capabilities, recruiting, international organisations which include interesting statistics on skill requirements and percentages of how graduates can be employed. Some of the key stats that I picked out when reading through was that “86% of employers consider good communication skills to be important”, ”1 in 6...

Mail Online article - University graduates lacking... →
This was an interesting article I came across where university graduates seem to have a lack of skills for employers. This information is going to be useful for my animation highlighting some of the key statistics of this change in employment rate for graduates, and how work experience can improve upon this, from recent research I found.
